Hardware partitioning divides a single server into physically isolated subsystems with independent CPU, memory, and I/O resources—delivering fault containment, workload flexibility, and multi-tenant security beyond software virtualization.

This session presents Wiwynn and Microsoft's POC-validated firmware architecture for hardware partitioning on DC-SCM v1.0 interface (reusing Microsoft’s DC-SCM v1.2), targeting a dual Intel Granite Rapids-AP platform. Using an MCTP-over-USB bridge between the main BMC (OpenBMC) on DC-SCM and an SMC (OpenBIC/Zephyr) on the HPM, we enable full partitioned management on today's single-host BMC silicon. This implementation was done pre-OBMF and the architecture will transition to OBMF-compliant interfaces, ensuring a forward-compatible path for the community.
